The »short 20th century« (1917-1991), the »clinch of revolution and counterrevolution« (Heiner Müller) is represented in regard to the twin-like resemblance of both adversaries of the cold war. Still in focus are dead W.I. Lenin and John Lennon and the question of their immortality: The history of the frozen revolution in the former Soviet-Union – Lenin’s hundred year long sleep – is confronted with the counter-culture arising in the West. Will »snow white Lenin« wake up one day and leave his crystal coffin? MAUSOLEUM BUFFOmeans the tragedy of the revolution and the buffo of its failure. It’s about the politics of mourning, social work of mourning and their political instrumentalization as cult of the dead which began in the SU with the burial of Lenin in 1924. The example of Lennon shows that the history of the 20th century is a story of betrayal of a hope, which was not only connected to October 1917, but towards an end of a global state of war.
